A seat belt cover is a padded sleeve that wraps around the shoulder section of a seat belt. Most are bought for comfort, to stop the belt rubbing the neck or collarbone. The MediPal does that job and adds a second one: it carries your written medical information where someone can see it.

Are seat belt covers legal in Australia?

A seat belt cover is an accessory that sits over the belt webbing. It should never change how the belt sits across the body, alter the belt path, or interfere with the buckle or retractor. Check your vehicle handbook and your state or territory road authority’s guidance, and remove any accessory that repositions or slackens the belt.

Are seat belt covers safe for adults and children?

A cover that only pads the shoulder strap, fits loosely over the webbing and leaves the buckle and retractor untouched does not change how the belt restrains you. Anything that clips the belt, gathers slack or pulls the sash off the shoulder does, and should not be used — for an adult or a child. Always follow the restraint manufacturer’s instructions.

How do you put a seat belt cover on?

Open the cover along its fastening, lay it over the shoulder section of the belt with the window facing outwards, and close it. It takes a few seconds and needs no tools. Check the belt still sits flat across the chest and shoulder, and that the buckle and retractor move freely.
