How to care for your silicone Mediband

Silicone is a tough and durable material, but you will still need to devote some time to maintaining it to extend its life.

Cleaning your silicone Mediband

Choose one of our three methods to clean your Mediband. We recommend cleaning once a week.

  1. Prepare a bowl of warm water and dishwashing liquid. Soak your Mediband in the solution for around 15 minutes. Then remove it from the bowl and clean it gently with a soft-bristled brush (a toothbrush is ideal). Take care not to scrub too hard, or you may remove any custom printing or markings. Rinse with clean water then pat dry.
  2. Prepare a bowl of hot water and liquid soap. Soak your Mediband in the solution for around 15 minutes. Remove your Mediband from the bowl and wipe it gently with a sponge. Rinse with clean water then soak in a bowl of cold water for another 15 minutes. Remove from the water and pat dry.
  3. For an embossed or debossed Mediband, soak it in soapy water using one of the methods described above. Gently wipe away any dirt from its surface then attach a thin length of cotton to a cuticle stick. Dip the cuticle stick in your soapy water and use it to remove any dirt from the embossed or debossed areas. Rinse your Mediband then leave it to soak in cold water for 15 minutes. Finally, remove from the water and pat dry.

More tips on caring for your silicone Mediband

  • Your silicone Mediband is naturally stretchy, but take care not to overstretch it. If it’s stretched too far, it is designed to break. This protects the wearer from injury if the Mediband accidentally catches on another object.
  • Avoid exposing your Mediband to harsh chemicals like cleaning detergents. For this reason, it’s best to remove it when you are doing housework.
  • Don’t wear your Mediband in chlorinated swimming pools.
  • Don’t try to clean your Mediband while you are in the bath or shower. This could result in the print design coming away.
  • Don’t leave your Mediband in direct sunlight as this can cause it to lose its elasticity.
  • Store your silicone Mediband away from jewellery made from other materials, especially metal items.
  • Take your silicone Mediband off before you go to bed to avoid its edges being worn away when you move about in your sleep.

Did you know?

  • Silicone is naturally hypoallergenic, so can be worn by almost everyone.
  • Silicone is non-toxic.
  • It has high heat resistance.
  • Silicone is waterproof (though we don’t recommend wearing your silicone Mediband in chlorinated water).
  • Because silicone is so durable and can withstand stress, temperature and water, it is used in a wide variety of products including door sealants, electrical wires and baking accessories

How to care for your metal Mediband

If you’ve purchased a metal Mediband, you’ve made a great choice. Our stainless steel Medibands are hardwearing, resistant to corrosion and tarnishing, and can withstand water and extremes of temperature. Here’s how to keep them in great condition.

Cleaning your metal Mediband

Clean your metal Mediband once a week to keep it in optimum condition. Here’s how:

Prepare a bowl of warm water and dishwashing liquid. Leave your Mediband to soak for 15 minutes. Remove it then dip a soft-bristled brush in the water. Gently scrub your Mediband, taking care not to apply too much pressure.

Clean any residue off the bracelet using a damp cloth and pat dry.

You can also use rubbing alcohol to soak your Mediband in, but be sure not to use chemical cleaners, which can damage stainless steel.

A paste of baking soda and water also works well. Mix up the paste and use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean your Mediband. Wipe off any residue with a damp cloth and pat dry.

You may wish to use a polishing cloth to buff your stainless steel Mediband to an attractive shine as a final step.

More tips on caring for your metal Mediband

  • Don’t be tempted to clean your metal Mediband in the shower. Instead, follow the procedure described above for the best results.
  • Store your metal Mediband away from other items of jewellery to avoid scratches. Even better, store it in its own individual pouch to protect it from damage.
  • Don’t expose your Mediband to harsh chemicals, so make sure you remove it when cleaning.
  • If you notice superficial scratches on your metal Mediband, you can buff them away with jewellery polish applied to a soft cloth.
  • Remove your Mediband when you sleep to avoid damaging it.
