Xarelto Medicated Medical Bracelet
Enjoy life more knowing that you - or your loved one - can get immediate and appropriate treatment should something happen.
Xarelto (rivaroxaban) medical alert bracelet
A purple silicone band naming Xarelto — the brand name for rivaroxaban, a direct oral anticoagulant — with the Star of Life mark moulded in. One piece, no clasp, no scanning. The point of naming the drug rather than the condition is that with anticoagulants, the drug is the clinically urgent fact.

Why anticoagulation is the thing a responder must know first
Healthdirect states plainly that the most serious possible side effect of a blood thinner is the risk of severe bleeding. That single sentence is the whole argument for this band.
What changes when the team knows
After a fall, a crash or a head knock, the assessment of someone on an anticoagulant is not the same assessment as for someone who is not. A bleed that would be minor becomes one that needs watching; imaging thresholds move; a decision about reversal enters the picture. None of that happens if the medication is discovered later, during medication reconciliation, rather than on arrival.
Why the specific drug matters, not just "blood thinner"
Anticoagulants are not interchangeable in an emergency. Warfarin is monitored by INR and reversed one way; a direct oral anticoagulant like rivaroxaban is not reflected by an INR at all and is managed differently, with reversal that is specific to the drug class. Healthdirect notes that it is warfarin specifically that requires regular blood tests to check clotting — which is exactly the assumption a band naming Xarelto corrects.
If you would rather carry the broader statement — because your prescription may change, or because you take more than one — the on anticoagulants band says that instead. If you are on warfarin rather than a DOAC, wear the warfarin band.
Who is usually prescribed rivaroxaban
Healthdirect lists the reasons a blood thinner may be prescribed, including an abnormal heart rhythm, a previous stroke or heart attack, a heart procedure such as a stent, and preventing clots around major surgery such as hip or knee replacement. Common reasons people wear this particular band:
- Atrial fibrillation, where anticoagulation is long-term and often permanent
- Treatment or prevention of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism
- A fixed course after orthopaedic surgery
- Combination therapy for coronary artery disease
If your anticoagulation is part of a cardiac picture, our heart condition medical ID guide goes through what else is worth carrying, and the cardiac stent band covers the stent itself.
Bleeding signs that need attention
A medical ID is one half of living safely on an anticoagulant; knowing what to act on is the other. Healthdirect advises contacting your doctor straight away, or going to your nearest emergency department, if you have any of the following while taking a blood thinner:
- Coughing up blood
- Vomiting that is black
- Black stools, or blood in your stools
- Red or brown urine
- Bleeding that does not stop, or that lasts a long time
Worth telling the people you live with as well, since several of those are things somebody else notices first. If a bleed follows a significant fall or head injury, treat it as urgent rather than waiting to see — and that is exactly the scenario in which a band on the wrist tells the ambulance crew what they need before anyone has asked a question.
Choosing between the anticoagulant bands
| Band | What it names | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| This band — Xarelto | The specific drug | You are on rivaroxaban long-term and the prescription is stable |
| Warfarin band | The specific drug | You are on warfarin, which is monitored and reversed differently |
| On anticoagulants | The drug class | Your medication may change, or you take more than one |
| Custom engraved ID | Whatever you specify | You want the drug, the dose and a contact on one permanent ID |
What this band does not do
The wording is moulded in at manufacture and fixed. There is no engraving plate and no write-on panel, so a name, a dose, an indication or an emergency contact cannot be added to this band.
For any of that, use a write-on band, which you fill in by hand and can update when your dose changes, or a made-to-order Mediband Custom ID in engraved steel or custom-printed silicone. Our guide to medical ID abbreviations covers wording that clinicians read reliably.
It is also not medical advice and not a substitute for telling people. Healthdirect's guidance is that when you book surgery or any medical or dental procedure you tell the healthcare team you are taking blood thinners — the band covers the occasions where you cannot.
Sizing, wear and care
Fit
Small, medium, large and extra large. Measure around the wrist and check our wrist measurement guide. Snug enough not to slide over the hand, loose enough to rotate freely and take a fingertip underneath.
Care
Medical-grade silicone with no metal and no clasp, so it stays on in the shower and the pool and is not a problem around imaging. Wash with warm water and mild soap, rinse after chlorine, salt water or sunscreen, air dry. Replace it when the colour-fill has worn back far enough that the wording no longer reads at a glance.
If your medication changes
A band naming a drug you no longer take is worse than no band at all. If you are switched off rivaroxaban, replace or remove it the same week — and if your prescriptions change often, a write-on or custom ID is the better format from the start.
For clinics, pharmacies and aged care
Single bands can be ordered from this page. For an anticoagulation clinic, a pharmacy, a general practice or an aged-care service, tell us quantities and sizes and we will come back with pricing and a date.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers from the Mediband team
What does this bracelet say?
It names Xarelto, the brand name for rivaroxaban, alongside the Star of Life symbol. The wording is moulded into the silicone at manufacture and cannot be changed or added to.
Is rivaroxaban the same thing as Xarelto?
Rivaroxaban is the active medicine; Xarelto is the brand it is sold under. If you travel, be aware the brand name is not used everywhere, so a custom ID carrying the generic name as well is worth considering.
Can I have my dose put on it?
Not on this band — it is pre-printed with fixed wording and has no engraving or write-on panel. For a dose, use a write-on band you can update, or a made-to-order engraved Custom ID. Whichever you choose, update it whenever the dose changes.
Why name the drug instead of just "blood thinner"?
Anticoagulants are monitored and managed differently from one another — warfarin by INR, direct oral anticoagulants like rivaroxaban not by INR at all. Naming the drug removes a question the treating team would otherwise have to answer first. If your medication changes often, a generic "on anticoagulants" band is the more practical choice.
Does it replace telling my doctor or dentist?
No. Healthdirect's advice is to tell the healthcare team you take blood thinners when you book any surgery or medical or dental procedure. The band is for the situations where you cannot speak for yourself — it is an alert, not medical advice, and does not replace guidance from your doctor or pharmacist.
Is it waterproof?
Yes — it is one piece of silicone with no metal and no clasp, so it stays on in the shower, the pool and the surf, and causes no problems around imaging.
What if I take more than one blood thinner?
Consider an "on anticoagulants" band, or an engraved Custom ID that can carry both. If you are not sure which suits your situation, contact Mediband and we will talk it through.
