Our story

It started with our son

Mediband was born from a family's need — and a belief that a medical ID should help people live more and worry less.

How it began

A medical ID a child would actually wear

Mediband began at home. When Michael and Landy Randall's son was diagnosed with an allergy, they went looking for a medical ID he could wear every day — and found the choices were uncomfortable metal tags that a child simply wouldn't keep on. The information those tags carried could be vital in an emergency, but only if it was actually being worn.

So in 2004, Michael and Landy set out to make something better: a medical ID that was soft, durable and comfortable enough that wearing it became second nature. What started as a solution for their own family grew into Mediband. More than twenty years on, Mediband remains a family business, still guided by the same belief that started it.

From lived experience

Shaped by real life

Much of what Mediband became came from living it. At our son's childcare centre, his Mediband meant the educators could see his allergy at a glance — quiet reassurance every time we dropped him off. And when we travelled overseas with him, we realised an engraving only helps if the people around you can read it. That's what led us to create multilingual Medibands — the wearer's condition and emergency details in the language of where they are — so a carer, a teacher or a paramedic, anywhere, can understand it in an instant.

What we believe

Health safety should be within reach of everyone

We believe living with a medical condition or allergy shouldn't mean compromising on comfort or confidence — and that a medical ID only does its job if it's worn. That conviction shapes everything we make, and it's why we're an NDIS-registered provider and design our IDs here in Australia.

Who it's for

Families, schools and the people who care for them

From a parent managing a child's allergy — exactly where our own story started — to a school keeping students safe, to an adult living with a chronic condition, to the healthcare workers who look after them, Mediband is for people at every stage of life.

Giving back

For those who need it most

We've always wanted Mediband to do more than make a living. We donate Medibands to people who might otherwise go without — including through outreach services supporting Australians experiencing homelessness, where a clear note of a condition or medication can matter just as much in an emergency. It's a small way of making sure health safety reaches everyone, whatever their circumstances.

Twenty years on, the reason hasn't changed: to help people — our family included — live more and worry less. If we can ever help you or someone you care for, our team would love to hear from you.
