  1. Keeping school-age children safe

Mediband Keeping You Safe Our Mediband® and MedibandPlus® products are getting a lot of interest as we in the southern hemisphere start our new school year. Every school takes its obligations for the safety of students seriously and with the figures for childhood illnesses like diabetes and asthma seemingly on the upkick, a lot of schools are working out how best to protect students and enable medical attention as quickly and efficiently as possible. 2. Keeping your family fit and healthy

With the advent of skim milk parents suddenly had a choice - but children need a certain amount of fat in their diet especially at a young age, so when can children move to low fat skim milk? The people at Kids Health answered the question by reiterating that breast is best for kids up to 1 and beyond and whole fat cow milk can be given to children from 1 - 2. After that it's your call. If you're the typical modern family then your iPad is probably mostly in the hands of your young children. So what apps can you buy that will keep them entertained, focussed (out of your hair!?) and maybe even educate them into the bargain? Continue reading →
  3. A healthy way to get into the new year:

Whoa there... that new year's resolution to get fit still top of your list? Chances are you'll be jumping into it like a bull at a gate (we all do), but that is not the way to do it according to this recent report on CBC News. 4. The new year and your health

2013 Happy New YearWhy not start the new year off with some healthy living tips that will set you up for success throughout the year? 1. Wear a pedometer.  How on earth is that healthy? We humans are naturally competitive and if you get into the habit of checking how far you walk each day, you'll naturally want to beat yourself... and the more walking you do, the healthier you'll be. Download an app for your smartphone or buy a proper pedometer, and then walk whenever you can - top the shops instead of using the car, to the train station and use the stairs instead of the elevator at work. 2. Buy a set of medium weight dumbbells. And lift weights twice a day for three repetitions each.  Research a set of three-five muscle-specific exercises that will do your arms, midriff and shoulders and start with just 10 minutes a day. Keep it up for two months and you will be amazed at the difference in your strength and body tone. 3. Save money on all those vitamins. The marketing push to take vitamins is huge... but the research indicating any benefit is scarce. Continue reading →
  5. Medical Bracelet Saves Young Woman's Life Multiple Times

medical braceletHannah Kean was diagnosed at the age of 21 with Anaphylaxis after a life time of baffling ill health and regular hospital visits since she was a toddler. The diagnosis was made after Hannah experienced an unexpected anaphylactic attack from eating an instant packet of macaroni cheese. “The only reasonable explanation for such a serious reaction to the microwaved packet of macaroni cheese is that it must have been manufactured on equipment used to produce seafood or fish products”, Miss Kean said. “Ever since then I have been fatally allergic to iodine, crustaceans and all types of fish and in my early 20’s I had between 30 and 40 anaphylactic episodes which were life threatening. “At the same time as being diagnosed with Anaphylaxis, I began to lose my hearing. Several years later the progressive hearing loss led my rheumatologist to diagnose me with a genetic auto immune disorder known as Muckle Wells Syndrome, and now I am 99.98 per cent deaf. “In any year I can spend up to two months in hospital at a time, and as I live on my own my Continue reading →
