first aid kitsThe first and most obvious reason is that a home first aid kit will contain the stuff that your family needs to survive; bandages and any specialist medical intervention equipment specific to your needs.  Allergic response families for example will have an EpiPen in their first aid kit. Diabetic families will have jelly beans and the like. The second reason is less obvious. Having a first aid kit you know you’ve stocked with the right materials keeps the panic at bay, it enables you to calmly assess the situation and reach for the right materials. And as any first responder knows, a sense of calm is key to making the right decisions in a manner that enables the best outcome.

So, What Does the Ideal First Aid Kit Contain?

  1. Adhesive strip dressings – bandaids. Stock the type that your family member is not allergic to.
  2. Non-adhesive dressings – best for burnt or grazed skin. Never use adhesive dressings on burnt or abraded skin.
  3. Wound dressings – these thick pads are used to help control bleeding and reduce the risk of infection. Different sizes are needed for different-sized wounds.
  4. Crepe or conforming bandages – these elastic bandages are used to create pressure, hold dressings in place, reduce swelling and provide some support.
  5. Triangular bandages – these non-elastic bandages are used for slings, to hold splints in place and to restrict movement.st john first aid kits
  6. Sterile eyewash solution – used to flush eyelashes, insects, dust, sand or similar particles from the eye.
  7. Equipment or items specific to your needs should also be added to your first aid kit.

And don’t forget the benefits of our Medibands and MedibandPlus products. Here’s what a recent customer said:

“I bought my daughter Medibands around a year ago for her egg & nut allergy. They are far superior to bracelets that we have had in the past. The bands are easy to recognise & read which gives me peace of mind when my daughter is out and about and also tough as nails. My daughter doesn't take hers off and it has stood up to a year of showers, swimming, sports and dancing all this and it’s only a little faded. Great value for money, priced well enough to keep spares too. I have recently ordered new medibands as we are nearly ready for a size up: very happy. As soon as my son who has the same allergies is big enough he will wear mediband too. I recommend them to anyone who needs to wear a medical alert."
