    What seemed like a good idea at the time has grown organically to become an all-encompassing (and still growing) business that saves lives, writes Dominique Bambino. Established in 2005, Mediband began in the spare bedroom of Michael Randall’s house. Like any entrepreneur, he faced some sleepless nights and drank a lot of coffee. However, the dedication slowly paid off: a year after the business launched Michael was able to move into a small office. A year later he moved into a larger one and it wasn’t long after that Mediband transformed from a promotional products supplier to a medical products supplier. The diagnosis was made after Hannah experienced an unexpected anaphylactic attack from eating an instant packet of macaroni cheese. “The only reasonable explanation for such a serious reaction to the microwaved packet of macaroni cheese is that it must have been manufactured on equipment used to produce seafood or fish products”, Miss Kean said. “Ever since then I have been fatally allergic to iodine, crustaceans and all types of fish and in my early 20’s I had between 30 and 40 anaphylactic episodes which were life threatening. “At the same time as being diagnosed with Anaphylaxis, I began to lose my hearing.   5. Michael Randall releases Mediband that can have allergies written on it

    A MOSMAN resident had a good reaction to allergies. Michael Randall had noticed that children with life-threatening conditions or allergies were reluctant to wear the traditional metal medical bracelets usually worn by older people. So he came up with a colourful, lightweight design that appeals to both children and adults. The bands are designed to warn people of the wearer's adverse health reaction to foods like peanuts and shellfish, or as an alert to conditions like diabetes, epilepsy and asthma. Continue reading →
