1. Sun damage is real Australians and other hot climes folks already know the truth of what the sun can do, but it may surprise cooler clime people to hear that slapping on the sunscreen is imperative for them too. Teenagers with fair skin need to cover their extremities and protect their faces from sun damage, and the potential for skin cancer further down the track. Indoor, or solarium tanning, is just plain silly and extended play outside – say, a baseball game – needs protection says these recommendations.

2. Chubby does not equal cute – babies! Apparently we’re all sticking to the old myth that a chubby little baby is a healthy little baby. (more…)

Staying healthy in an unhealthy world!

Sometimes it is just plain hard work to stay healthy. You can make it a little easier by knowing what to do, what your risks are and how to make the most of the cards you’re dealt. 1. Exercise helps

A diagnosis of cancer often inspires people to eat better and exercise more. The news appears to be that this really does work. 1. Stress may damage women more than men Mental stress may be more than a headache it seems. A recent study compared stats from men and women and found that women undergoing mental stress stand a greater risk of heart disease than men.  The study found that men’s heart rates elevated during mental stress but women’s didn’t, indicating potential issues from the lack of blood flow. 2. Dogs are good for you! Generally speaking, dog owners tend to be more relaxed and happier than non-dog owners several studies suggest. But further research indicates that the breed of dog you choose says even more! Those selecting cocker spaniels are more easy-going than most. The conclusion seems to be that we choose breeds most like us.

3. Berries. They’re berry berry good.  New research shows that women who add berries (raspberries, blackberries, strawberries etc) to their diet can improve their brain function as they age. The study, says this article, is significant because it tracked over 160,000 women in the Nurses Health Study. The good news? Even adding berries once a week is a great assist. (more…)
