There's just so much doom and gloom out there - don't do this, can't do that and sometimes we lose the good news for the easy headlines! But, generally, it can be quite simple to get healthy and stay healthy. If you do have a problem others should be aware of, then consider a Mediband, but apart from that, celebrate being healthy...

1. The ingredient-reading codes. Start making a habit of reading ingredient labels. Yes, you won't understand the chemical names, but keep two things in mind. The less you understand the name, or the more numbers and scientific it appears to be, the more processed and unhealthy it is likely to be. You don't need to know what it is to work out whether it's good for you or not! Secondly, the higher up the list the more of it is in the product. If science dominates the top of the list, re-think that product. They're not going to make labels any easier to read anytime soon, so keep those general rules in mind and you'll be right.

2. Bring your lunch to work. If this sounds like too much effort, just consider the daily cost. A stir fry or a sandwich and a drink is around $10, or $50 a week. Or $200 a month, or $2400 a year! That's a holiday somewhere nice, so... bring your lunch to work. A bread roll filled with something tasty is easy to prepare; it's invariably healthier than the cafe offerings and  with all those savings you can buy something genuinely nice for the family home.

3. Eat thoughtfully. We eat three times a day to stay alive, so take the time to just relax while you do it. Read the morning paper at breakfast. Leave work aside during lunch, and turn off the TV at dinner time to enjoy time with the family. By making meal times peace time you de-stress your adrenal glands, let your stomach digest quietly and give your brain some down time. By eating slower you help your digestive system and you get to enjoy your food. Have fun seeking out what you want to eat, enjoy preparing it and appreciate the effort when you're sitting down.
